Lytro Light Field Camera Review
The earliest light fields photographs were taken at Stanford University about 15 years back. This innovative research back then required a room full of cameras connected to a supercomputer. But now, Lytro does the job by using this research and making it accessible to the world by introducing the first Light Field Camera.
With Lytro’s revolutionary camera, an image can be refocused anytime by using its software. Focus can be made anywhere by just clicking on any area of the photo thus creating a so called living picture which gives a interaction level that no regular camera can match.
A light field sensor takes a different approach than a standard camera. It doesn’t just catch the light for a fixed shot, it functions by using array of tiny lenses upon a Sensor. These hundreds of little lenses split up light just before actually getting to the sensor. The sensor collects and capture not just the sum total of the light but in different factors like the color, depth and path of light.
Lytro’s light field camera is basically a five inch metal cuboid with lens and touch screen at each ends. Its controls are nothing more than shutter release, power button and a mini touch-sensitive strip for zoom control. The touch-screen is 1.5-inch LCD for viewing, exposure control and framing.
Features of a Lytro light field camera are -
- Ability to refocus images after they are taken.
- No need to focus the lens before taking a picture.
- Capture photos faster than regular digital cameras.
- Convert Lytro camera’s image to a regular JPEG file of 1080 × 1080 pixels.
- Larger aperture than standard cameras, thus giving it an edge in low-light conditions.
- 3D stereo images can be produced from a single image capture.
Lytro light field camera has non-removable battery and memory. It boasts a Micro-USB port for charging and data transfer. The first generation of this camera will only come with two memory options 8GB and 16GB with 350 and 750 Shots respectively.
Lytro Light Field Camera Price in India – Rs. 19,500(8GB) & 24,500(16GB)
