Indian masses are huge fan of SUVs which is reasonably high on budget and equipped with notable features to deliver brilliant on road performance. One of the Initial Automobile manufacturers in India, Premier Automobiles Ltd (PAL) brought Rio as a Compact SUV for Indian market.

Premier Rio is by far the cheapest SUV in Indian Market. This compact SUV is a 5 seater car in a rugged off construction which is launched against renowned Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra XUV 500.

Exterior

The new compact SUV comes with flat headlamps on the front end. The three spoke alloy wheels with tubeless Radial tires that come in the dimensions of 205/70 R15. The Grille on the front cannot be called happening; engrossed on that is a captivating Premier logo which looks impressive.

The compact SUV can accommodate 5 adults comfortably on its 5 seating arrangement. Rio draws the tax benefit of measuring less than four meter with the length of just 3970mm. It’s height of 1730mm and 1570mm width provides highly spacious leg and headroom for the passengers.

Premier Rio comes with the wheelbase of 2420mm and has the ground clearance of 200mm which makes it practically compatible for any road condition. The diesel variant of the car comes with the kerb weight of 1145kg while the Petrol variant weighs comparatively light with 1080kg weight. The car comes with the petrol tank capacity of 46 liters.

Interior

Interiorly, Rio is spaciously designed with adjustable seating arrangement for ensuring comfortable travelling experience. The car is given greyish touch inside with beige colored interiors and steering wheel in chrome touch.

The gray colored dashboard is followed by instrument panel which is located behind the three spoke power steering and there’s an MP3 player with AM/FM options to let the users listen to melodious music during long drives.

The DX variant of the car comes with leather seat covers with tinted glasses to ensure maximum ease for long drives. The side view mirrors are colored in the similar color as the body paint but there’s no distinctiveness on the door handles.

Engine & Performance

Premier Rio petrol is powered by 1.2 Liters 4 cylinder MPFI engine which comes with the displacement of 1173cc. It can churn out the maximum power of 76.6 PS at 5800 RPM and the peak torque of 103.9 Nm at 3500-4250 RPM.

The Diesel version of Rio comes with 1.5L turbo Diesel engine of 1489cc which can produce the peak torque of 152Nm at 2250 – 3000RPM and max power of 65PS @ 4000RPM.

The powerful engine can take the petrol version of compact SUV from 0 to 100 km/hr in mere 20.8 seconds. Disappointingly, crossing after the mark of 100km/h, the engine becomes weak which is normally not seen in other SUV.

But on the positive side, Rio seems nice and quick in city which makes it highly suitable for handling; the inclusion of ABS brakes system allows quicker retardation. The 5 speed manual gearbox in the car allows easy shifting of gears, especially in denser traffic and comes with tight turning radius of just 4.7 meters.

While the petrol variant can deliver 9.8kmpl on city roads, Diesel variant can give the maximum speed of 12kmpl. Its diesel can give the max speed of impressive 145kmph.
